Online store “Ebay” may start accepting Bitcoin as means of payment soon if the words of its senior vice president is to be believed.
eBay Inc. as we already know, is a multinational e-commerce corporation founded by Pierre Omidvar, headquartered in San Jose, California that facilitates consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales through its website By revenue, ebay is the world’s ninth-largest internet company but probably adopting bitcoin as payment option may further boost their shares, perhaps.
Although, not many retailers accept cryptocurrency as payment option, but those who do are obviously garnering better patronage with boost to shares. Overstock.com (OSTK) example, is up more than 250% in the last six months, as a result of embracing the bitcoin phenomenon. The web retailer is a pioneer in the cryptocurrency space, as it became the first major retailer to accept bitcoin in early 2014.
As we already know, payments in bitcoin aren’t exactly becoming commonplace, but they are slowly becoming more common, a New York City preschool is also accepting bitcoin for tuition, also in November, mobile-payments company Square (SQ) quietly rolled out a new feature to a small number of users on its Square Cash app: the ability to buy and hold bitcoin. Square CEO Jack Dorsey (also CEO of Twitter) told Yahoo Finance in October, “There’s nothing more impactful to our business than digital currency.”
Although ebay hasn’t yet adopted Bitcoin as payment option but Scott Cutler, the senior vice president of eBay Americas, told Yahoo Finance in an interview this week that the online retailer is “seriously considering” accepting bitcoin, but “we’re not quite there yet.”
As we already know, presently on eBay, you can buy a Complete Cryptocurrency GPU Mining Rig for $2,586, or a “Just Hodl” (a bitcoin inside joke) hoodie for $33.99, or a “collectible bitcoin gift coin” for 99 cents. There are hundreds of bitcoin-related items, but obviously, you can’t pay in bitcoin.
Lets just hope eBay would start accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment soon but as it stands, eBay is focused on other stuffs like delivering a strong holiday season, expanding its offerings, shipping times, and return process as it tries to compete with Amazon.
