Smart Televisions just like smartphones, bring you endless possibilities like connecting them to the internet to stream, play online games, manage your social accounts and even share Wifi network etc. With a Smart TV connected to the internet, the possibilities are just too endless. But then, not too many people actually know how to connect a Smart TV to the internet, but in this post, we’ll guide you on not just one but two ways to connect your Smart TV to the internet.
There was a time when bulky TVs with wooden slides as lock were the MVP, then came the coloured bulky TVs till flat screen LED/LCD TVs were introduced. But if you thought that would be the zenith of Televisions invention, then you are obviously wrong. Just like mobile phone industries, car manufacturing industries etc, there will always be that “top notch invention” to spend on.
With that said, a Smart TV, aka connected TV or hybrid TV, is a television set with integrated Internet and interactive “Web 2.0” features. It is a technological convergence between computers and flatscreen television sets and set-top boxes. Besides the traditional functions of television sets and set-top boxes provided through traditional broadcasting media, these devices can also provide Internet TV, online interactive media, over-the-top content (OTT), as well as on-demand streaming media, and home networking access.

As stated earlier, with a Smart TV, you can connect your television to the internet, you can share wifi network, you can play online video games and you can even connect your social media accounts. But to do all these with your Smart TV, you’ll first need to make it accessible to the internet i.e connect your Smart TV to the internet. To connect your smart Tv to the internet, there are two ways involved:
★ Through a wired connection
★ Through a wireless connection.
Let’s get started.
★★ CONNECTING YOUR SMART TV TO THE INTERNET USING A WIRELESS CONNECTION
To use a wireless connection, your Smart TV should support WiFi technology. One of the key advantages of wireless connection is that, you don’t need to use cables here. It will require a hotspot though. You can use a router, a mi-fi, or even the hotspot feature on your smartphone or tablet to share internet with your Smart TV.
If you are using your smartphone, make sure you have a reliable 4G connection or else you must be prepared to endure a lot of buffering and stuttering while using your TV.
Here are the steps to connect your Smart TV to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Note: Depending on your Smart TV’s brand, the exact name and process may be slightly different, but will fit within these steps:
★ Turn on your router/Wi-Fi/smartphone hotspot
★️ Press the Menu (or Smart) button on your Smart TV’s remote
★️ Select Network and then Network Settings
★️ Your Smart TV Should attempt to connect to a wireless network. If it doesn’t find one, it will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi. If it does, skip the next step.
★️ Select Set up a wireless connection
Select your Wi-Fi wireless network name from the list of available hotspots
★ Type your Wi-Fi password using your remote’s keypad.
Your Smart TV should now be connected to your Wi-Fi and is internet-connected.
★★ CONNECTING YOUR SMART TV TO THE INTERNET USING A WIRED CONNECTION
With a wired connection, you will need a LAN or Ethernet cable, with which you will connect your Smart TV to your router. The benefits of wired over wireless include faster Internet speeds and less interruptions.
Here is what to do:
★️ Find the LAN or Ethernet port on the back of your Smart TV (see the diagram below)
★️ Plug the cable into the LAN/Ethernet port on your TV and then plug it into your router as well.
★️ Select the Menu or Smart button on your TV’s remote
★️ Select Network and then Network Settings
★️ Your Smart TV Should attempt to connect to a wireless network. If it doesn’t find one, it will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi.
If it does not attempt any connection, skip this step.
Select the option to enable wired internet and click Start Connection
Your Smart TV will automatically connect to your wired network and it is online.
