c505218304b50c59c3659f6dda43bae7-links-4–>While Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ from 2017 were among the year’s best-selling smartphones, the Korean company’s 2018 follow-up to those devices, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ have for the most part failed to catch on with both average consumers and die-hard Samsung fans, alike.
Seeing how the S9s are essentially carbon copies of their predecessors boasting slightly upgraded internal components, perhaps the lackluster consumer response (and dismal sales figures) come as less of a shock.
Either way, it’s clear from some of the latest reports that Samsung has learned the invaluable lesson that most consumers will only upgrade their device when given compelling reasons, like new features or emerging technologies, to sway their interest.
Fortunately for Samsung, while the S9 and S9+ continue their graceful decline though just months after hitting store shelves newer reports suggest the tech-giant is already at work putting the finishing touches on its true ‘next-generation’ flagships, the Galaxy S10 family, and most notably, the Galaxy S10+.
The new features and technologies that may be arriving on Samsung’s Galaxy S10+ includes the device’s implementation of a display glass-embedded fingerprint sensor, as well as a new and highly-advanced sound-emitting OLED display technology that’s rumored to replace the handset’s earpiece with a superior-sounding form of acoustic audio playback.
Now, thanks to a new leak published this week in a report by the historically accurate Korean-language business journal, The Bell,we have even more exciting new details all but confirming that the Galaxy S10+ will be one of Samsung’s most powerful, advanced and technologically well-equipped devices yet.
Specifically, The Bell’s report corroborates previous rumors that the Galaxy S10+ will feature a new rear-facing triple-lens camera system developed by Samsung but the leaked information specifies more clearly what role each of those lenses will play in capturing the perfect photos. Apple’s 2019 iPhone lineup is also rumored to introduce a triple-lens camera technology.
According to The Bell, as roughly translated by BGR, we can expect “a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor for optical zoom and Portrait Mode photos, and a new 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor” on the backside of the Galaxy S10+. The report further noted that “the main wide-angle camera has a 77-degree lens, while the new ultra-wide-angle camera will have a 120-degree angle of view.”
In addition to the triple-lens system around back, sources note that Samsung’s Galaxy S10+ will also feature a dual-lens camera system for taking selfies. Notably, the report states this system will be similar to the one employed on Samsung’s recent Galaxy A8 smartphone, including a standard camera sensor coupled with a dedicated telephoto sensor for portrait-style selfies.
In addition to these headlining new features, the Galaxy S10 family is slated for a massive redesign, including the use of larger, edge-to-edge Infinity AMOLED display panels, upgraded internal components and more.
According to the report, Samsung could be planning an earlier-than-expected unveiling of the Galaxy S10+ and its constituents potentially at Las Vegas’ annual Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in mid-January 2019.
It’s reported that Samsung is hoping to get the word out about its Galaxy S10 devices enough in advance of the company’s appearance at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in February where the firm is expected to take the wraps off its first commercially-available foldable smartphone the Galaxy X.
Pricing details are unavailable for the Galaxy S10 or S10+, but consumers can reportedly expect to shell out as much as $1,000 or more for an entry-level model. This would be consistent with Apple’s move to push the $1,000 iPhone X flagship, and is a mere reflection of the advanced technologies that will go into making the S10+ what it hopes to be.
Samsung’s Galaxy X, meanwhile, touting the industry’s first foldable, bendable OLED display panel, is rumored to cost as much as $2,000, according to the most recent analysis.
