Whatsapp has just rolled out a very important and long-awaited feature that now allows users to tag or ‘mention someone’ in a group chat. This feature is timely and will undoubtedly rank WhatsApp IM even more higher than its competitors.
Since the acquisition of WhatsApp by Mark Zuckerberg, we have seen a lot of new features added and this one is yet another one which will definitely make group chat more interesting than before.
It works like twitter mention and adopts the “@” symbol to mention someone just as it’s done on Twitter and other social media platforms including forums.
FEATURES OF WHATSAPP MENTION
✔ It works only on group chats
✔ It Allows you to specifically address a contact inside a group to get their attention
✔ It works both online and offline
✔ When you mention or tag someone, he or she will receive notification
✔ It works like twitter mention
HOW TO MENTION SOMEONE IN WHATSAPP GROUP
✔ When you’re in a group chat, try typing the symbol @ and you’ll get a list of all the participants in that chat.
✔ From there, you can tap any of them
✔ Alternatively you can just type the first letters of anyone’s name and it’ll narrow down to them.
✔ Then select them and the name will show up as hyperlinked (blue) in the text entry box.
✔ Immediately you send the text, the hyperlink will still be there in the sent message.
Note that anyone can tap the hyperlinked name to get to the specific contact’s page details. Isn’t it great?
You might be wondering if it’s the same as WhatsApp Quote feature . Well, works almost similar with the quote feature but this mention is better in the sense that, users gets notification once their name is mentioned in a group.
